NEW

Paulinho Favela
Trafficking in the Favelas

ORDER FROM:

Paulinho was beginning to take power from the Comando Amarelo, which controlled the drug trade in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Tiago, the godfather of the Maravilhosa city, from the depths of his cell in prison, viewed with a dim eye the rise of this son of a bitch whom he had put in place in the Favela da Rocinha.

Driss, for his part, abandoned his quality of life in Lyon and his quest for identity, which he lost forever.

He was determined to pursue this love that he had begun virtually with Lisa.

The two friends, Paulinho and Driss, who had not seen each other for years, were about to experience a complicated relationship, in which the key words would be love and death.

Brazil, France, pedophilia, terrorist attacks, disappointment, all the ingredients that justify this headlong flight to end in the gang war of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

This is the second part of the previous novel "L'HOMME DE RIO FAVELA DO PAULINHO" by Boumé Boubekeur.

Embark on this journey to the heart of Rio de Janeiro, among the gangs of this city of Carnival, beaches and Bossa Nova, the one that only sleeps when the sounds of gunfire no longer echo.

Paulinho Favela

ORDER FROM:

Driss, of French origin, is about to realize his lifelong dream: to go to Brazil.
It is on this distant land that he will learn about his true homeland, and at the same time, his true identity.
There he meets many people, personalities a world away from those he has known until then.
Quickly accepted by the Brazilians as one of their own, he also meets a young man from the favelas. The latter's passion for writing allows him to escape the difficult and often violent daily life he leads. With him, Driss develops a special relationship that will change him forever.
Embark on a journey to the heart of Rio, a voyage where racism, tolerance, acceptance of differences, the quest for identity, grief and feelings intersect!

Barely speaking the local language, unemployed, and without any real friends waiting for him in Rio, Driss nevertheless decides to go. Irresistibly drawn to Brazil and this city whose landscapes and beauty are breathtaking, he can't help but want to build the edifice of his future life there, stone by stone. Both thrilled and anxious about this new adventure, he sometimes doubts his choice; and then, he looks around again, and his decision is strengthened. This cosmopolitan city, where he finally feels at home, can only be his city.

Rio is as beautiful as it is dangerous; gang wars in the favelas are omnipresent and their shadow extends to Driss, who seemed convinced he could remain in the Carioca sunshine.
His friend Paulinho, a resident of a favela he feels so close to, is mired in the terrible reality of the conflicts inherent in this violent world. His dearest wish is to leave Rio, far from all of this; he flees the clutches of the Carioca gangs like the plague, but will nevertheless find himself trapped in the worst possible way, involving Driss, whose only desire was to find his place in this world.

Biography

Boumé Boubekeur was born in Lyon in 1963. In 1970, as a child, he watched the World Cup final, which was being held in Mexico. It pitted Italy against Brazil, with its extraordinary player, Pelé. Impressed by the torcedores (Brazilian fans) who cheered and danced the samba, he told his father, "Dad, that's where I want to live, because the people sing and dance." He was seven years old.

Twenty years later, he was able to make his first trip to Rio de Janeiro, and ever since, he has been a passionate visitor, meeting up with his friends there every year, who call him "Boumézinho." He has since visited this vast country, seventeen times the size of France, about twenty times! The Amazon, the Pentanal, Mato Grosso, Paraiba, etc.—all these Brazilian states are represented in Rio de Janeiro, the "Cidade Maravilhosa," a city that blends all the "cariocas" (Rio natives).

"The Man from Rio" is the story of Driss, of French origin, who realizes the dream of his life: to go to Brazil where he will learn about his true homeland, and at the same time, his true identity.

He knows both the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro and the favelas. He tells us about encounters with Brazilians, including a young man from the favelas, passionate about writing, which allows him to escape his difficult and often violent daily life. A journey to the heart of Rio, an odyssey where racism, tolerance, acceptance of differences, the search for identity, grief, and emotions intertwine.

A journey to the heart of Rio, set to the rhythm of jazz music. A truly moving and superb experience.

I loved the lightness of the writing in this book, the generosity of the main character, and Lise's sensitivity; it's a book for everyone.

Amazon review

The author offers us a colorful and meticulous portrayal of Brazil and Rio.
It transports us on an unexpected adventure, sometimes to the paradise of beaches, lush forests and Brazilian beauty; sometimes to the hot hell of favelas and the suffering of a displaced person.
A poignant and rich novel.

The violent adventures that the hero Driss faces alongside his friend Paulinho in the favelas of Rio are captivating and masterfully described. The author skillfully conveys the tastes, the music and sounds, the smells…

Michel Wilson
"Sunburn"

The author's sensitivity and passion for this country offer the reader a colorful journey with gentle sounds where we never leave Driss in his wanderings in this infinite Rio.

A round trip of overwhelming contrasts.

Nicole Chillet

Its title is surprising, disconcerting, and draws our imagination into the Amazonian wilderness of the early 1960s, following in the footsteps of Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac… But Boumé Boubekeur and his companions from France, Brazil, and elsewhere, "The Man from Rio," are not film actors, and yet their life's adventure is an invitation to reflection, arousing curiosity, emotion, and tenderness as the pages turn. From adventure to misadventure, from encounter to encounter—among which the meeting with Paulinho holds a special place—Driss manages to find his way, and we leave him with regret, moved and happy to have shared a part of his journey… A must-read.
